The Sweet Story Behind Mother's Day 🌻
Mother's Day feels like it has always been around — a day filled with flowers, heartfelt cards, and breakfast in bed. But the story behind this beloved holiday is actually rooted in something much deeper than brunch and bouquets. It began with a woman who simply refused to let the sacrifices of mothers go unnoticed.

It Started with One Woman's Mission
The modern Mother's Day we celebrate today was founded by Anna Jarvis, a woman from West Virginia who was deeply inspired by her own mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis. Ann had spent her life organizing "Mother's Day Work Clubs" to care for wounded soldiers and promote community healing during and after the Civil War. When she passed away in 1905, her daughter Anna made it her mission to honor her legacy, and the legacy of mothers everywhere.
Anna campaigned tirelessly for an official day to recognize mothers, and in 1908 she held the first official Mother's Day celebration at a Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia. Just six years later, in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed it into law, making Mother's Day an official national holiday observed on the second Sunday of May.

A Holiday Born from the Heart
What makes the origins of Mother's Day so beautiful is that it wasn't born from commerce or tradition — it was born from love and gratitude. Anna Jarvis simply wanted the world to stop and acknowledge the women who give so much of themselves, day in and day out, without ever asking for recognition in return.

Celebrating the Spirit of Mother's Day
At its core, Mother's Day has always been about pausing to truly see the people who love us so selflessly. It's a reminder that the women who nurture, guide, and show up for us every single day deserve more than just one day of appreciation, but that one day is a beautiful place to start.
So this Mother's Day, however you choose to celebrate, let it be genuine. Let her know she is seen, she is valued, and she is deeply loved. đź’›
